Sanderson proposes three ways that AI might make progress in solving maths and science problems:

• Connecting fields - finding a connection between two unrelated fields of mathematics to solve a problem.
• Mountain building - generating new mathematical abstractions in order to make progress on a new problem.
• Raw hustle - Not developing new maths, but using super-human amounts of time and energy to generate long chains of reasoning to produce an answer. These are not immediately understandable to a human mathematician.
